Your Questions: Popeye’s construction could start in September

July 3, 2018

When are they supposed to make some progress on tearing out the old motel and getting the Popeye’s started? Anxiously waiting …

According to the Bartlesville Development Authority, remedial work for asbestos started June 26 on the Sooner Motel, the site of the new Popeye’s restaurant, with the demolition to follow. Construction on the restaurant could start in September depending on the developer’s project schedule.

Store opening TBA

When will the new mega gas station open at the intersection by the Research Center?

According to the Community Development Department, a date for the opening of the Fast Lane convenience store and gas station has not yet been announced. For more information, see City Beat Archives.

Welcome to town

Who is responsible for the Welcome to Bartlesville mosaic in that intersection? Who created it?

The Welcome to Bartlesville sign with the mosaic was designed and constructed by Leadership Bartlesville Class 15 and donated to the City of Bartlesville as a gift to the community in 2008. The City of Bartlesville is responsible for the entryway sign.

BRCC director: Leadership Bartlesville classes rock

What has been deemed the most successful Leadership Bartlesville project to date? Helped the most? Raised the most money, etc.?

Sponsored by the Bartlesville Regional Chamber of Commerce, the Leadership Bartlesville program “informs, motivates and increases the awareness of selected participants through seminars and interaction with community decision makers.”

BRCC Director Sherri Wilt was kind enough to answer this question. Her response is as follows:

“A couple of the most visible projects that have been done by past classes were the electronic sign by the Johnstone Park pavilion. Class 24 tackled that and paid for it by selling the Bartlesopoly games. That was wildly successful and raised a lot of money. Another one was Class 15’s project, which was making the welcome to Bartlesville mosaic sign as you come in west of town. (See above.) Class 20 did the giant mural on the brick wall of the Bartlesville Southern Abstract building across from the RSU building, adding more character downtown. Other projects have included helping to restore Kiddie Park’s carousel and placing metal park benches around downtown.”

Applications for the upcoming class will be accepted through July 6. For more information about Leadership Bartlesville, see www.bartlesville.com.
