Bartlesville No. 22 in national water conservation contest

April 24, 2018

1 week left to make online pledge

Bartlesville is 22nd on a national list of cities of similar size participating in the National Mayor’s Challenge for Water Conservation, Grants Administrator Nancy Warring said this week.

The City of Bartlesville is participating in the seventh annual National Mayor’s Challenge for Water Conservation, which is sponsored by the Wyland Foundation and Toyota, with support from the U.S. EPA WaterSense, The Toro Company, National League of Cities, Conserva Irrigation and Earth Friendly Projects.

The project kicked off on April 1, when residents were asked to make an online pledge to conserve water and energy throughout April and beyond. By pledging to conserve, residents also have a chance to win $5,000 toward their Home Utility Payments, water saving fixtures and hundreds of other prizes. Plus, one lucky charity will receive a 2018 Toyota RAV4 Hybrid to serve the community.

“This challenge is a fun way to compete with other cities and to do something that’s important for Bartlesville,” Warring said. “Our water resources have been stretched to their limits in the past, and we hope this contest will remind people to be frugal with their water use.”

“We’re currently ranked 22 out of around 1,000 cities in our population category,” she said. “So we have a real chance of winning if people keep signing up and spreading the word.”

The annual challenge ends April 30. Make your online pledge at mywaterpledge.com. For more information, see www.cityofbartlesville.org.
