City in process of renewing wastewater discharge permit

August 27, 2018

The City of Bartlesville is in the process of renewing its wastewater discharge permit, as required by the Oklahoma Department of Environmental Quality.

“The ODEQ regulates wastewater treatment facilities and issues an Oklahoma Pollutant Discharge Elimination System permit on a five-year cycle,” said Water Utilities Director Terry Lauritsen. “This permit regulates the quality of the wastewater discharged and the testing required to demonstrate compliance.”

Lauritsen said the City applied for the renewal in January.

“We’ve gone through comments between the ODEQ and the City regarding some of the nuances of the permit and are at the final stage of the process, which is a 30 day public comment period,” Lauritsen said.

This comment period concludes on Sept. 25.

The Notice of Issuance of Draft Permit and Draft NPDES Permit have been submitted for publication in the local newspaper and placed at the Bartlesville Public Library for viewing.
