A history

Robinwood Park is a 70-acre park located on property donated in 1956 by the Washington County Sewer Improvement District #1. The park is divided into three sections, including a playground and picnic area, soccer fields, and bird sanctuary. In 1982, the City approved a lease proposal by the Washington County Soccer Club to construct a five-field soccer complex. Today, the complex is comprised of 16 fields, ranging in size to allow players ages 5 through 18.

A large bird sanctuary is situated in the middle of the park. Originated in 1977 by Paul Hefty and with approval from the City, five acres of the existing park was transformed into a bird paradise. He used this forest land to plant a variety of food-bearing bushes and trees, including deciduous holly, special flowering crabs, and berry bushes, as well as to provide protective brush for the birds. Today, the sanctuary is home to some of the largest hickory, pecan, oak, and walnut trees in the city. Mr. Hefty died in 2008, but his legacy lives on through the sanctuary he created.

In addition, the park includes multiple shaded picnic tables and barbecue grills, as well as a children’s playground area.
