Donations accepted for Pavilion project

Money raised will help purchase picnic tables, benches

An effort is underway to raise money for picnic tables, benches and other amenities at the Johnstone Park Pavilion, Community Development Director Lisa Beeman said recently. The pavilion is located at the south entrance of Johnstone Park at Hensley Boulevard and Cherokee Avenue.

“We are hoping to install picnic tables and benches at the pavilion — and other amenities as well — but unfortunately, we have not been able to identify funding for this portion of the project,” Beeman said. “We’re asking for citizens to consider making a donation of a picnic table or bench, which they can dedicate in memory of someone, if they’d like.”

The drive is facilitated by Bartlesville Area Friends of the Parks, a non-profit, volunteer organization dedicated to improving the city’s parks.

“This is a small but dedicated group of people who work to improve our park system,” said Beeman. “They do so much for our parks and our community, and we appreciate them taking on this effort as well.”

The pavilion was recently constructed as part of an ongoing multi-phase project including installation of the 6,000 square foot, open-sided pavilion, restrooms, a perimeter sidewalk, lighting and a brick paver on the south side of the facility. Phase 3, which included construction of the brick paver and sidewalk, recently concluded, and Phase 4, which consists of creating additional parking south of the Kiddie Park area, is set to begin next spring.

The project is funded through the Community Development Block Grant-Small Cities Set-aside Program and matching funds from the City of Bartlesville.

Items available for donation include:
