Firefighters move into new living quarters at expanded Central Fire Station

bpsc-fire-wide-10-24-16Firefighters at Central Fire Station recently moved into their new living quarters at the expanded station, which is part of the new Bartlesville Public Safety Complex under construction in the 600 block of South Johnstone Avenue.

The BPSC is one of the voter approved projects included in the 2012 General Obligation bond election. The project consists of renovating and expanding the existing Central Fire Station, located at 601 S. Johnstone, and constructing a new police administration facility at the northwest corner of Adams Boulevard and Johnstone Avenue.

The new addition to the fire station was designed to include living quarters, the operations center and a new apparatus bay. The renovation of the second floor of the fire station is designed to house fire administration, who currently office at City Hall, 401 S. Johnstone Ave. The police administration building will replace the existing police station, located at Johnstone and Hensley Boulevard.

bpsc-police-10-24-16The project was awarded to Crossland Construction and construction began in March 2016. The project originally had a 240 day schedule, targeting it for completion in late November 2016.

According to Director of Engineering Micah Siemers, Central Station firefighters moved into their new living quarters with a temporary certificate of occupancy on Oct. 20 “to allow demolition activities in the existing fire station to accommodate the renovation portion of the project.”

“The apparatus bay is 90 percent complete,” Siemers said. “The police administration building is moving along — sheet rock has been installed and painting has begun. The exterior brick is about 50 percent complete.”

Siemers said site work to install the paving started about two weeks ago and is ongoing.

“There have been some delays, but the original eight-month schedule was an aggressive one,” he said. “The project is currently slated to be complete in late December 2016 or early January 2017.”
