Johnstone Park to re-open Friday after storm damage

Work to remove damaged trees in Johnstone Park following storms that moved through the area last week is nearly complete. The park is set to re-open to the public early on Friday, May 6, Parks Superintendent Bobby Robinson said this week.

The park, which is located on North Cherokee Avenue in Bartlesville, was closed on April 19 after high winds damaged more than 30 trees in the park, resulting in hanging limbs that posed a potential hazard to park-goers.

Parks Department crews have been working to remove the damaged trees and limbs, and Robinson says the park should be ready to open by 6 a.m. on Friday.

“We’ve made good progress in removing the damaged limbs and tree debris and anticipate having the park ready for the public by the end of the week,” he said. “Our goal is to have the park ready for the public before the weekend, particularly with Sunday being Mother’s Day.”

Robinson said the shelter will be available for reservation on Saturday, assuming all goes as planned.

“We don’t foresee any problems with shelter reservations for the weekend,” he said.
