Medical marijuana law on tap for council

Proposed City regulations set for discussion August 13

The Bartlesville City Council is expected to discuss the state’s new medical marijuana law during a special workshop meeting called for Aug. 13.

Voters approved State Question 788, which legalized medical marijuana in Oklahoma during an election on June 6. Since that time, the Oklahoma Department of Health has worked to establish state regulations and guidelines for the implementation of the referendum. Cities across the state are now working to establish municipal policies and ordinances that incorporate the regulations as they pertain to the use, sale and possession of medical marijuana.

City of Bartlesville staff has researched the issue and is in the process of drafting proposed regulations for the City Council to discuss and consider during the Aug. 13 meeting. No action will be taken during the meeting. The matter is planned for discussion only. It is expected the issue will be considered for approval during a City Council meeting either later this month or in early September — before State licensing begins next month.
