New K-9 officers in service

May 22, 2018

The Bartlesville Police Department currently has four K-9 officers on duty, though one — K-9 Diesel — will be retiring soon, Capt. Jay Hastings said this week.

“Diesel is scheduled to retire soon, as was Apollo,” Hastings said. “But the department has three new K-9 officers that have completed training and are in service.”

BPD K-9 Officer Apollo passed away on May 19 after falling ill and undergoing surgery for a gastric-intestinal illness last week.

“He served his community faithfully throughout his career,” Hastings said. “He passed peacefully with his partner Sgt. Troy Newell, fellow officers and other loved ones by his side. Apollo was a good and faithful servant who will be missed by all who had the blessing of knowing him.”

The new K-9 officers are Baron, who is a Belgian Malinois, Atlas and Borg, who are German Shepherds.
