Q&A: Abelardo’s taking Taco Bueno spot; landscape ordinance headed for City Council

Aug 30, 2022

What’s going in there?

What’s going in where Taco Bueno was?

According to the Community Development Department, Abelardo’s Mexican Fresh restaurant is in the process of applying for a business license and a sign permit for that location. The brand appears to have locations in Nebraska, Iowa, South Dakota and Missouri.

Natural landscape ordinance (again)

What is the status of the natural landscape ordinance?

The draft ordinance for managed natural landscaping is currently undergoing amendments by City staff. The final draft will be considered for approval by the City Council during the council’s next regular meeting, set for 7 p.m. Sept. 6.

City news followers may recall the council heard an update on the pilot project on Aug. 15, after which mass confusion ensued due to misunderstandings about what the program entails and who it affects. Long story short, the ordinance only applies if all or a majority of a yard is converted to natural landscaping, which consists of plants exceeding 12 inches in height. It does not apply to trees or shrubs or landscaping/flower beds. If you think you might be interested, check out this Q&A for more information.
