Phase 3 of the Wastewater Collection Rehabilitation project — a multi-phase project consisting of improvements to the City’s wastewater collection system — is scheduled to wrap up this month.
Work on Phase 3 started Sept. 19 and is on a 40-day schedule. Phase 1 of the project was completed in September, and Phase 2 was completed in June. Phase 4 is expected to start next year.
The project is based on results from the Sanitary Sewer Evaluation Survey (SSES), which quantified areas of high storm water inflow and infiltration into the City’s wastewater collection system.
“The SSES study showed a lot of infiltration of storm water into our wastewater collection system. This is the third phase of a multi-phase project that aims to remedy that,” said Director of Engineering Micah Siemers.
Siemers said the project consists primarily of “point repairs” and line replacements.
Siemers said contract crews are using “slip lining” and “pipe bursting” procedures to replace sections of damaged line. The methods allow the lines to be repaired without removing them from the ground.
“Basically, that means they don’t have to dig out the line to repair it; they can replace sections of it while leaving it in the ground.”
A contract for the work was awarded to Sapulpa Digging in July for $955,554, well below the budgeted amount designated for the project.
