The City of Bartlesville held its annual Arbor Day ceremony on Oct. 11 near the playground at Johnstone Park, 100 N. Cherokee in Bartlesville. An Arbor Day celebration is one requirement for the City to retain its status as a Tree City USA, a title the City has proudly held for 42 consecutive years. The newly planted Shumard oak is a fast-growing native tree with colorful fall foliage, and replaces a tree which was damaged by storms several months ago. The original tree, planted in 1991, had been dedicated “In Loving Memory of Our Innocent Children Who Die From Child Abuse and Neglect,” in recognition of Domestic Abuse Awareness Month in October. Pictured, from left, are Tree Committee Chairman Chuck Parkin, Mayor Jim Curd, Tree Committee Member Christine Roberson, Parks Superintendent Bobby Robinson and Ray of Hope Outreach & Outcomes Coordinator Yoci Clayborn.
