Boots Hollow Golf Club will begin using a “Bird Banger” noise device to scare nuisance geese away from the course — in particular, the 16th green, BHGC announced recently.
“The 16th green is getting a lot of turfgass damage from the geese digging for food in the area,” said Director of Golf Dee Roadman. “This most likely is because a water feature is nearby with the adjacent pond on the hole.”
The device, which is designed to scare away nuisance birds, is a launcher device that “shoots off a noisy cartridge in the air” that scares the birds, Roadman said. It does not harm the geese or any other animals.
“Many farmers use these to protect their crops from other bird species,” Roadman said. “The launcher is a small plastic pistol that shoots the noise cartridge into the air when geese are feeding on the greens in problem areas, like Hole No. 16 green, where damage is being done by geese. The screamers make a loud whistling sound — probably like something you would hear on Fourth of July.”
Roadman said the device will likely be used a few times a week or less, and that only the neighborhood adjacent to Hole No. 16 will hear the sound.
