BPD holds annual Peace Officers Memorial Ceremony

Bartlesville Police Chief Tracy Roles speaks during the event.

Law enforcement officers killed in the line of duty were honored Wednesday during the Bartlesville Police Department’s annual Peace Officers Memorial Ceremony.

This year’s ceremony was especially somber as the local law enforcement community mourned one of their own, Washington County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Cpl. Kyle Davis. Davis was killed during an altercation at the Washington County Detention Center on March 25. A wreath was presented to his family during the ceremony, and Sheriff Scott Owen spoke about Davis during the event.

“I just want everybody to know that Kyle was special, and I want Kyle’s family to know that they’re special to us,” Owen said. “I especially want his parents to know that they raised one of the finest men I know.”

The ceremony is held each year during National Police Week (May 9-15) to honor fallen peace officers across the nation.

Sheriff Scott Owen thanked the community for its support in the wake of Deputy Cpl. Kyle Davis’ death.

One of the hallmarks of the ceremony — the 21-gun salute — is executed.

Former U.S. Attorney Trent Shores was a featured speaker at the event.
