Four Bartlesville Police Department officers were presented with two of the police department’s top awards during the City Council’s regularly scheduled meeting on Monday.
Police Chief Tracy Roles presented the awards to Officer Ben Hollander, Sgt. Daniel Mains and Cpls. Denver Millard and James Graham.
Hollander received the Meritorious Conduct award for his work with the department’s technology and assistance to his fellow officers.
“Officer Hollander has been the go-to guy for a long time in our department for patrol-related technological problems and recommendations,” Roles said. “Ben has taken the initiative to learn computer software and hardware that is used in the Patrol Division to accomplish our jobs on a daily basis. He has certainly saved the City of Bartlesville and its citizens monetarily, and provided our department with self-learned skills that are vital to our operations.”
Mains, Millard and Graham received the department’s Life Saving award for their role in preventing a man from committing suicide after he was interviewed at the police station earlier this year.
“On the evening of March 14, 2019, Sgt. Mains, Cpl. Millard and Cpl. Graham were inside the police station and had just completed an interview with a witness of a felony hit and run incident,” Roles said. “The subject had been left in the interview room alone when Cpl. Graham noticed, by camera, the subject was removing his shoe laces and speaking to himself. The subject then tied the laces together, placing them around his neck and climbing onto a chair. Sgt. Mains and Cpl. Millard ran into the interview room and grabbed the subject as he was attempting to hang himself. Due to these officers’ attention and quick action, they prevented a tragic situation from occurring and most definitely saved a life.
“From a grateful department, I want to personally thank each of these officers for their dedication to the mission of the Bartlesville Police Department.”
