BPD opens applications for Citizens Police Academy

Mar 17, 2026

The Bartlesville Police Department is now accepting applications for the Spring 2026 Citizens Police Academy, which begins April 2. The deadline to apply is 5 p.m. on March 26.

The academy will run from April 2 through May 21, with classes held every Thursday from 6-9 p.m. Participants will gain an inside look at police operations, procedures and specialized units.

“This program is one of the best ways for residents to learn how their police department works and how we serve the community,” said Acting Police Chief Troy Newell. “We’re limiting the class to 20 participants, so anyone interested should apply early.”

The academy includes sessions on department structure, patrol operations, investigations, the K‑9 program, the Special Operations Team, officer training and certification, the School Resource Officer program, and other key areas of public safety.

“Participants will get a first‑hand look at the daily responsibilities and challenges of modern policing,” Newell said. “Our goal is to build understanding, strengthen relationships, and give residents a meaningful connection to the work our officers do.”

Applicants must be 21 years of age or older. To apply, complete and submit the Citizens Police Academy application.
