The Bartlesville Development Authority (BDA) announced this week that Chris Batchelder has been selected to succeed David Wood as the organization’s president and CEO, marking a significant leadership transition for Bartlesville’s economic development efforts.
Wood plans to retire on Jan. 30, 2026, after 16 years of service. Batchelder will officially assume his new role on Feb. 2, 2026.
Bartlesville native Batchelder, a long-time community advocate and experienced leader in regional development, brings a track record of collaboration, strategic planning, and proven results. His appointment follows Wood’s successful tenure, during which the BDA strengthened its economic foundation, attracted new investment, and supported key initiatives that expanded Bartlesville’s business and employment landscape.
“We are excited to welcome Chris into this role, and I could not be more confident in his ability to lead us forward,” said Chase Allcott, BDA Board chair. “He knows this community, he cares deeply about its future, and he brings the kind of steady, thoughtful leadership that will continue the momentum we’ve built under David’s guidance. Chris is the right person to carry this work ahead, and we’re grateful he has chosen to step into this opportunity.”
Batchelder most recently served as vice-president of business development since joining the BDA in 2021, where he worked closely with business leaders, educational institutions, and public partners to advance economic opportunities across the region. His experience in organizational leadership and community engagement positions him to continue the BDA’s mission of attracting new employers, supporting existing businesses, and fostering a vibrant local economy.
“I’m honored to serve Bartlesville in this capacity and look forward to working with the Board, BDA team including Jared Patton and Laura Clark, City leadership, and our many community partners,” said Batchelder. “Bartlesville has tremendous potential, and I’m excited to help shape the next chapter of growth and innovation.”
The BDA also expressed gratitude for Wood’s years of service and leadership. Wood will assist with the transition over the coming weeks to ensure continuity and a smooth handoff of ongoing projects.
“David’s steady hand, vision, and humility have shaped Bartlesville in ways that will be felt for decades,” said Allcott. “We are profoundly grateful for his 16 years of service. His leadership has helped create more than 400 new jobs, welcomed new corporate partners, and supported the growth of many of our long-standing employers. Our community is stronger, more resilient, and better positioned for the future because of David. It has been an honor to serve alongside him.”
The BDA works to enhance economic vitality in Bartlesville by recruiting new employers, supporting business expansion, strengthening workforce development, and partnering with local organizations to create a dynamic and prosperous community.
