Peace Officer Memorial Ceremony set for May 12

Vice Mayor Jim Curd issues an official proclamation for National Police Week, May 9-15, to Bartlesville Police Department Capt. Kevin Ickleberry, who received the proclamation on behalf of the police department during a City Council meeting on Monday.
The Bartlesville City Council on Monday proclaimed May 9-15 National Police Week, recognizing that Bartlesville Police Department officers play an essential role in safeguarding the community.
“It is important that all citizens know and understand the problems, duties and responsibilities of their police department, and that members of our police department recognize their duty to serve the people by safeguarding life and property by protecting them against violence or disorder, and by protecting the innocent against deception and the weak against oppression or intimidation,” the proclamation states. “Our police officers have exhibited compassion, understanding and professionalism during the performance of their duties in this past year.”
Part of the weeklong recognition includes Peace Officer Memorial Day on May 12. The Police Department will hold its annual Peace Officers Memorial Ceremony beginning at noon that day. The event is held each year during Peace Officer’s Memorial Week to honor fallen law enforcement officers nationwide.
This year’s ceremony will feature a special tribute to fallen Washington County Deputy Cpl. Kyle Davis, who was killed during an altercation at the Washington County Detention Center on March 25. Davis’ name will be added to the memorial and the Bartlesville Police Department Honor Guard will present a wreath to the Davis family.
The memorial will be held at the Bartlesville Public Safety Complex, just north of the police facility at 615 S. Johnstone Ave. The public is invited to attend. Parking will be available at the Bartlesville Community Center, 300 S.E. Adams Blvd.
