The City Council is expected to consider approval of signs for three City-owned parks next week. Park entry sign funding was approved by the Council as part of the Fiscal Year 2023-24 capital budget, including $40,000 for entry signs at some of the smaller parks: Douglass Park, Civitan Park, Eddie Mason Park, Colonial Park, Lyon Park, and Smith Park.
“The intent was to add these signs to the existing contract with ACSM for gateway, vehicular wayfinding, pedestrian wayfinding, and park signage that have been installed over the past few years,” said Director of Engineering Micah Siemers. “Unfortunately, that project has taken too long and is still incomplete. ACSM still has to finish installing the gateway signs on U.S. 75 at the north and south city limits.”
Siemers said City staff did not believe it made sense to continue working with the contractor due to the delay and other issues that have come up during construction. He said staff reached out to multiple sign vendors to request quotes to install signs that match what has been done at the other parks and that three vendors have provided proposals that included prices for monument signs at Douglass, Civitan, and Eddie Mason Parks.
In a separate agenda item, the Council will also consider approval of a contract with Play By Design for the construction of the Douglass Park Playground Shade Structure project.
The Council will consider approval of a contract for the project at their regularly scheduled meeting on Aug. 3. The meeting will begin at 5:30 p.m. at City Hall, 401 S. Johnstone Ave. The public is invited to attend.
