The Play for Burk Foundation is planning to plant 10,000 daffodil bulbs on pre-approved locations around Bartlesville this Saturday, Oct. 13, — including at churches, schools and City of Bartlesville-owned landscapes — where the flowers can bloom for all to see. The event, “Daffin’ the ‘Ville,” will help raise money for local recreation endeavors.

The Play for Burk Foundation is a non-profit group dedicated to serving the youth in the community by providing recreational funds generated from fundraisers. It is named for Burk Hansen, who tragically passed away following an ATV accident in 2015 at the age of 13.

“Doing good in the world is what we’re all about. We want to focus on local youth. A lot of kids knew Burk or knew of him. So we figured if we keep the name Burk in there, they’ll know and recognize that it’s for Burk Hansen,” said Clint Hansen, Burk’s father, in a July 26, 2015, interview with the Bartlesville Examiner-Enterprise.

City of Bartlesville Community Development Director Lisa Beeman says the City is excited to participate in the Daffin’ the ‘Ville project, which the organization hopes will become an annual event.

“The City is happy to be able to provide visible land for the Play for Burk Foundation kids to plant the bulbs for such an inspiring project,” Beeman said.

Play for Burk Foundation volunteers and various local groups will plant the bulbs beginning at 9 a.m. A tent will be up from 9 a.m. until noon at Madison Middle School, where citizens can by bulbs to plant at their homes for $2 each.

Proceeds from bulbs and donations will go to help local youth by providing funding for scholarships, an annual leadership conference, equipment for schools, community improvements and to organizations that support youth, according to the Play for Burk Foundation website.
