Distance around Lee Lake

Q — What is the distance around Lee Lake?

A — The distance around Lee Lake is 0.7 mile.

Empty houses causing eyesore in neighborhood

Q — Is there an ordinance or statute on how long a house can stand empty before the City will take any action?

A — The City of Bartlesville does not have an ordinance specifically prohibiting the keeping of vacant houses. However, state law, according to Title 11C. 1. d., there is a provision stating that “a structure which has been boarded and secured … for more than 18 consecutive months” falls under the “dilapidated building” code. If you have homes in your neighborhood that meet these conditions and you would like to file a complaint, visit https://www.cityofbartlesville.org/community-development/neighborhood-services/ or call 918-338-4230.

Recycling Center hours: The whys and wherefores

Q — Most people work until 4 or 5 (p.m.). Closing the recycling center at 3:30 makes it extremely inconvenient for people in this community to “do the right thing.” Why doesn’t the City keep its recycling center open longer?

A — The City’s Public Works Department has tried keeping the Recycling Center, located at 10th Street and Virginia Avenue, open in the evenings — even, at one point, attempting to leave it open 24 hours a day, seven days a week. However, problems with people stealing the aluminum and dumping trash — everything from garbage to unwanted furniture — forced the restricted hours of operation.

The center requires monitoring by Sanitation staff, who work 5:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. on weekdays and 5:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturdays. Currently, budget limitations prohibit the provision of additional manpower at the center beyond regular Sanitation staff hours.

Cherokee Waterline Project underway

Q — I‘ve noticed they are marking gas, water lines, etc. on Cherokee (south of Adams). What are they getting ready to do?

A — On Feb. 22, work began on the Cherokee Waterline project, involving Cherokee Avenue between Adams Boulevard and 14th Street. The project consists of installing a new six-inch waterline along the west side of Cherokee Avenue.

Two-way traffic will be maintained during the project; however, periodic lane closures should be expected. Eighth, Ninth, 11th, 12th, 13th and 14th streets will each be closed at some point during the project to accommodate the waterline installation adjacent to Cherokee. The dates for these closures are not yet known. Each closure should be less than one week in duration, assuming weather conditions and construction progress is adequate.
