Closures to facilitate ODOT bridge project

Sep 6, 2022

Two closures are planned to facilitate ongoing work at the Cherokee Bridge, Water Utilities Director Terry Lauritsen said today. The entrance to Johnstone Park will close effective today, and the bridge itself will be closed beginning next Monday.

“Starting today, the contractor for the Oklahoma Department of Transportation will be closing the entrance into Johnstone Park at the intersection of State Highway 123 and Cherokee Avenue,” Lauritsen said. “Then, starting Monday, Sept. 12, the contractor for ODOT will be closing the north legs of the Cherokee and SH 123 intersection, including the bridge over the Caney River.”

The closures are necessary to facilitate water and sewer relocations needed for the bridge project, Lauritsen said. Both roads will be closed for three weeks.

The ODOT project includes replacing the State-owned Highway 123 Bridge, also known as the Cherokee Bridge, over the Caney River and realigning the bridge/intersection east of its current location. The two-year project began in April of this year.
