Civitan Park, which was closed last month when damage to the park’s shade structure was discovered, will remain closed for a while longer as City staff attempts to locate a contractor who can make the necessary repairs.
The damages are believed to have been caused by faulty installation, with the footings placed at varying elevations and the columns placed directly onto them.
“The structure will need to come down, the repairs made, and the structure replaced,” said Director of Engineering Micah Siemers. “We are in the process of getting quotes from qualified contractors who can do the project and hope to seek City Council approval as soon as possible.”
Siemers said the park will be reopened once the structure has been removed.
“The repairs will be made on the ground, so the park can be occupied once the damaged structure is no longer a potential hazard,” he said. “We’ll update the public as soon as we know more.”
The structure was gifted to the City of Bartlesville in 2006. It is unknown who completed the installation.
