The filing period to seek election to the Bartlesville City Council is Aug. 5-7. Candidates must file a declaration of candidacy during this time to be eligible for election in the Nov. 5 general election.
In accordance with the Bartlesville City Charter, all five council seats are decided by voters of each ward every two years during the general November election.
To quality, candidates must file for the seat with the Washington County Election Board during the filing period.
The filing period for the upcoming election will be held Aug. 5-7. Candidates may file during the hours of 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. on Aug. 5, Aug. 6, or Aug. 7.
To qualify for a council seat, candidates must:
- Be a qualified elector of the City for six months prior to the first day of the filing period
- Be a qualified resident of their respective ward for six months prior to the first day of the filing period
- Have no felony convictions
- Be at least 25 years of age at the time of election to office
- Not hold any position in City government by appointment of the city manager
- Not hold any other public office which would constitute a conflict of interest according to State Statutes
The election board is located on the fourth floor of City Hall, 401 S. Johnstone Ave. (The WCEB leases office space within the building but is not a department of the City of Bartlesville.)
