As the Fourth of July holiday approaches, the City of Bartlesville reminds residents that fireworks remain banned within city limits despite the recent passage of the “Rockets’ Red Glare Act.”
Signed by Oklahoma Gov. Kevin Stitt in May, the Act applies only to private property in unincorporated areas of Oklahoma and expressly preserves municipal authority to regulate fireworks within city limits, Bartlesville Fire Marshall Brady Watson said this week. The Bartlesville ban applies to all private and public property inside city limits and has been in place for many years.
“Fireworks are a serious safety hazard to people and property and should be left to professional shows,” said Watson.
How to Report Illegal Fireworks — Do Not Call 911
To keep emergency lines open for those who truly need them, please do not call 911 to report illegal fireworks. Call 911 only if someone is injured or if fireworks start a fire.
“Calls to 911 regarding firework violations can overwhelm our emergency dispatch system, potentially delaying assistance for individuals in critical need,” Watson said.

The City will follow up on all complaints.
Penalties
Violations of the City’s fireworks ordinance may result in:
- A $300 fine per occurrence
- Confiscation of fireworks
