Frontier pool, Sooner splash pad to open this weekend

June 2, 2020

The City-owned Frontier Swimming Pool is set to open for the season Saturday, June 6. The pool is located at 312 S.W. Virginia Ave. in Bartlesville.

“We’ve been working to get Frontier Pool open and are on schedule to open it as planned on June 6,” Public Works Director Keith Henry said today.

Both Frontier and Sooner swimming pools, are owned by the City of Bartlesville but are managed and operated by the Richard Kane YMCA.

According to the YMCA, attendees permitted at the pool will be kept at normal capacity; however, pool staff has been increased for cleaning purposes and adjustments may be made as needed. A maximum ratio of one adult to five kids under the age of 12 will be maintained for open swim, from noon to 6 p.m., Pool rentals are available after 6 p.m. and discounts will be available for groups between the hours of 9:30-11:30 a.m. on Fridays.

Demand for the pools will be evaluated before deciding whether to open Sooner Pool, located at 420 S.E. Madison Blvd., for the season as well.

While City-owned parks have remained open during the Covid-19 crisis, park restrooms and playgrounds were closed due to concerns about spreading the virus.

But Parks Department crews have been busy this week readying playgrounds and restrooms at three of the City’s most popular parks to reopen this week.

Sooner Park, Johnstone Park and Civitan Park are open as of Monday, Public Works Director Keith Henry said yesterday.

“We’ve been working to disinfect the playground and restroom areas at Sooner, Johnstone and Civitan parks,” Henry said. “As soon as they are ready we’ll move on to the others and hopefully have them all open this week.”

Henry said the Sooner Park Splash Pad should be open by Saturday, if not before.

“We are working on the splash pad now and, barring any problems, should have it open by Saturday at the latest,” he said.
