Johnstone Park re-opened after high winds damage trees

May 5, 2016

Johnstone Park is open after being closed due to damaged trees caused by storms that moved through the area last week.

City Parks Department crews worked to remove about a dozen uprooted and heavily damaged trees in the wake of high winds and storms that hit the area on April 26, but an evaluation of the park revealed about 30 more trees with broken limbs that could have posed a danger to park-goers.

Work has continued into this week to remove those limbs, according to Parks Superintendent Bobby Robinson. Robinson said Parks Department crews used bucket trucks to remove the limbs, completing their work a little earlier than planned.

“We actually had most of the work done a little ahead of schedule, but the park is officially open now and shelter reservations can be resumed,” he said.
