Keep Bartlesville Beautiful, City staff install solar lighting on Pathfinder bridge

The iconic pedestrian bridge along Pathfinder Parkway is getting a subtle new look — thanks to a collaborative effort between Keep Bartlesville Beautiful and the City’s Community Development team.

As part of a small-scale pilot effort, solar-powered LED lights have been temporarily installed along the bridge to explore how residents respond to a softly illuminated nighttime experience. The goal is simple: enhance the visual appeal and usability of the bridge during evening hours, while keeping costs and impacts minimal.

“What makes this effort stand out is how efficient and low-cost it is,” said Community Development Director Larry Curtis. “The entire installation came in at under $500, demonstrating how thoughtful, incremental improvements can be tested without major investment. The lighting is intentionally modest — designed to provide a calm, ambient glow from twilight through the early evening hours. Because the lights are solar-powered, they are not intended to remain on all night, but instead create a welcoming atmosphere during peak evening use.”

The temporary installation is expected to remain in place for six months to a year. During that time, staff and volunteers will observe how the public interacts with and responds to the illuminated bridge. Feedback and usage patterns will help inform whether similar enhancements should be considered elsewhere along the trail system.

“It’s important to note that this project is not part of the voter-approved bond package from February,” Curtis said. “Instead, it reflects a flexible, community-driven approach — one that allows the City and its partners to test ideas, gather real-world input, and make informed decisions before committing to larger capital improvements.

“At its core, this effort highlights what can happen when local organizations and City staff work together: a small investment, a shared vision, and a meaningful enhancement to one of Bartlesville’s most beloved public spaces.”
