Local English Language Learner earns top award

Sep 30, 2025

Abigail Rodriguez, a dedicated learner in the Bartlesville Public Library Literacy Services program, has been honored with statewide recognition for her outstanding achievements in adult literacy.

Rodriguez received the English as a Second Language (ESL) Adult Learner of the Year Award during a special ceremony at the annual Oklahoma Adult Education & Literacy Conference in Oklahoma City. The award was presented by Kimberly Boldt of the Metropolitan Library System.

When Rodriguez joined the BPLLS program, she set two personal goals: to learn English and to obtain her U.S. driver’s license. In just one year, she significantly improved her reading scores, gained confidence in everyday conversations, and successfully earned her driver’s license.

“Over the past year, Abigail has made outstanding progress in her English learning journey,” said BPL Literacy Coordinator Cheryl Dorris. “Her dedication, strong work ethic, and positive attitude truly make her deserving of this prestigious award.”

The ESL Adult Learner of the Year Award is sponsored by Tinker Federal Credit Union, a proud business partner of the Oklahoma Literacy Coalition.
