Police: Sling-shot used to shoot car windows in weekend crime spree

Feb 21, 2017

Bartlesville Police Department detectives say juveniles used a “wrist rocket-style” sling-shot to shoot out several car windows and storm doors on Sunday.

BPD detectives interviewed and arrested two juvenile males in connection to the recent cases, which involved at least 10 victims.

“The two juveniles, ages 15 and 16, confessed to using a ‘wrist rocket’-style sling-shot to shatter windows of several parked vehicles on the east side of town Sunday night,” BPD Capt. Jay Hastings said in a press release on Tuesday.

Hastings said officers have taken 10 “damage to property” reports involving the shattered car windows and storm doors since Sunday evening.

The juveniles were identified by an alert patrol officer who stopped a car late Sunday evening and observed a sling shot inside the vehicle.

“The officer obtained their Identification and passed the information on to detectives, who were then assigned the case,” Hastings said. “Once the juvenile’s parents were contacted, it all started coming together.”

The parents and juveniles are cooperating with the investigation, Hastings said.

“We are fortunate to have identified the perpetrators so quickly, before they had a chance to do further damage,” he said.

Hastings said reports and information will be sent to the Office of Juvenile affairs and the district attorney.
