Portion of Oak Park Road to be renamed ‘Roane Road’

Jul 3, 2024

A portion of Oak Park Road will be renamed Roane Road in honor of the late Ward 4 representative Billie Roane. Roane passed away in April following a sudden illness.

City staff say streets in the Arcadian housing development, which will consist of the construction of more than 100 single family residences on a majority of the lots within the Oak Wood Addition, were given names when the plat was recorded in 1982. However, in the western and northern portion of the subdivision, an east/west and north/south segment of right of way were both given the name “Oak Park Road.” City staff say it is no longer considered a best practice to give perpendicular streets the same name, which resulted in a suggestion to consider renaming the east/west segment of Oak Park Road in honor of Roane, who was previously a long-time resident of Oak Park and a representative of the ward.
