Price Fields Phase 3 work underway

Feb 11, 2020

Phase 3 of the Price Fields Sports Complex Renovation Project, approved by voters in the 2018 General Obligation Bond Election, is underway at the softball/baseball fields located on Tuxedo Boulevard just west of Silver Lake Road.

According to Director of Engineering Micah Siemers, crews have completed the demolition work for this portion of the project and are currently working to get the earthwork complete for the parking lot addition and concession/restroom building pads.

“The contractor’s goal is to get the parking lot complete as soon as possible to try and minimize disruption of the user groups once the spring baseball and softball seasons start,” Siemers said. “Once they get the parking lot completed they will refocus on the building and field construction.”

He said the new fields are targeted for use in the fall.

“The new fields will not be completed for the spring season, but the contractor has set a goal to have the complex complete before the fall season begins, if they can get favorable weather conditions,” he said.

Voters approved $3.6 million in funding for Phase 3 of this multi-phased project, which involves replacing the four main fields in the central portion of the complex as well as constructing additional parking, restrooms and concession facilities. The first two phases saw the construction new softball fields in the northeast area of the complex and baseball fields in the northwest section in addition to new parking. Additional phases, should funding be approved in the future, could include street alignment, improved access into and out of the complex, emergency access to the complex, reconstruction of the larger fields on the south end of the complex, additional parking, batting cages and additional storage.

This project was recommended in the 2009 Park and Recreation Development Plan. The total cost approved by voters for the first three phases of the project is $8.8 million.
