ODOT to start work on Adams beam, deck replacement September 4
The Oklahoma Department of Transportation will begin work to replace beams and the bridge deck on the Adams Boulevard bridge over the Caney River, near the Veterans Memorial Bridge, on Sept. 4.
“Work on this project will be similar to the previous ODOT bridge replacement on U.S. Highway 75 over Turkey Creek that concluded late last year,” said City of Bartlesville Director of Engineering Micah Siemers.
Traffic will be reduced to one lane in each direction for the duration of the project, which is expected to conclude next May.
City, ODOT team up on sidewalk project
The City of Bartlesville, working with the Oklahoma Department of Transportation, is preparing to begin a Safe Routes to School project that includes installing sidewalk in three locations in the vicinity of Hoover Elementary School and Madison Middle School.
“One sidewalk will connect the east side of Madison Middle School with the Pathfinder where it intersects Quail Ridge Loop. This portion of sidewalk will be east of the track and football field located north of the middle school,” Siemers said. “The second sidewalk will begin at the sidewalk in front of Hoover Elementary School and run north along the east side of Madison Boulevard to the main entry into Sooner Park. The final portion of sidewalk to be constructed will be along the south side of Amherst between Madison Boulevard and Harvard Drive.”
Work on the project has been awarded to Whaling Construction. A start date will be determined in the next couple of weeks, Siemers said. Construction is anticipated to begin sometime in mid-September.
Mountain Road mill and overlay to start in September or October
An asphalt mill and overlay project will begin on Mountain Road at the entrance to Circle Mountain in late September or early October, depending on contractor scheduling and coordination with the Safe Routes to School project, Siemers said.
A contractor on the project, Whaling Construction, has been selected, and a start date should be determined this week.
“The project should last approximately eight weeks, if weather conditions cooperate,” Siemers said.
The roadway will be closed completely during construction due to the steep and winding configuration of the road, which does not permit limiting traffic to one lane at all times, Siemers said.
“Access to Circle Mountain Estates will be limited to the rear entry off of 3940 Road during this project,” he said.
Johnstone Pavilion Phase 4 project offers more parking for Kiddie Park patrons
The fourth phase of the Johnstone Pavilion project — a parking lot that will serve the pavilion and Kiddie Park-goers to the north — will likely begin sometime in late September, Siemers said.
The project consists of constructing a new concrete parking lot with 41 spaces including three ADA accessible spaces north of First Street and south of the Kiddie Park.
“The parking lot is located so that it will serve both the Kiddie Park and pavilion,” Siemers said. “The project utilizes Community Development Block Grant funds and is a 50/50 match with half-cent sales tax Capital Improvement Project funds.”
The City Council is expected to consider approval of a contract for work on the project during a regularly scheduled meeting on Sept. 4. Construction is targeted to begin by the end of September. According to Siemers, the bid for the project came in under the available budget, so City staff is looking to add to the contract during construction to gain additional spaces.
Previous phases of the pavilion project included the installation of a 6,000-square-foot, open-sided pavilion and the construction of a sidewalk and brick paver plaza with lighting, as well as additional parking on First Street.
