Q&A: Solid Waste Survey coming soon; park structure destroyed by storms

May 7, 2019

Coming soon

When is the survey about recycling coming out?

A specific date for the release of the Solid Waste Survey hasn’t been confirmed, but it is targeted for release this week or next week. Notice of the survey, which can only be taken online via Survey Monkey, will be placed in upcoming utility bills as well as advertised in City Beat, the City’s website, Facebook page and other social media, as well as the local newspaper and radio stations.

The survey is an opportunity for local residents to let the City know how they feel about current and potential future solid waste services, including recycling, bulky waste collection, street sweeping, roadside clean-up and the voucher system for free drop-off at Osage Landfill.

Perhaps most importantly, the survey seeks to gain insight into which solid waste services residents not only want but are willing to pay for, and how much they are willing to pay for them.

Once it is launched, the survey will be available for 30 days. The results of the survey will be used to help determine which solid waste services City staff and the Bartlesville City Council should work to implement in the future.

Cereal boxes go in cardboard recycling bins

Where do we put cereal boxes and such at the recycle center?

According to the Public Works Department, cereal boxes and such should be placed with the cardboard at the City’s recycle center, located on 10th Street just west of Virginia Avenue.

Storms take out shade structure cover

There have been a few mentions of the new pavilion at Civitan Park being dedicated recently, but no mention that the cover had disappeared that same week from the playground area. We’re curious what happened to the cover and if/when it will be replaced.

The cover of the shade structure at Civitan Park — aka “the dinosaur park” — located near Silver Lake Road and Nowata Road, was removed April 18 after it was damaged by storms that hit the area the night before. Further assessment revealed the cover cannot be repaired due to the extensive damage. It has not yet been determined if the cover, which was donated to the City in 2014 by the Bartlesville Civitan Club at a cost of $53,000, will be replaced.

Still no plans for Kmart

Is there any truth to the rumor going around that Target is going in where the old Kmart store was?

There appears to be no truth to that rumor. The Community Development Department hasn’t received any permit applications from Target or any other business intending to locate in the former Kmart building.
