Q&A: Number of Civitan shade structure covers revealed; Plus Sooner slides & Facebook

Jun 4, 2024

By Kelli Williams

How many times has the shade structure cover at Civitan Park been replaced?

The answer is: Once. The original cover was replaced in 2020, and that is the cover that is still on the structure today. The structure itself was removed last summer after deficiencies were discovered, and so the structure cover was removed again with it, of course. The structure was repaired and replaced, including the (replacement) cover, on May 29. For those of you hoping for a higher number, stay tuned. These covers are not designed to last forever, according to Parks and Rec folks, and the current cover will likely need to be replaced in one to two years.

Fun suckers

Might be a good deal to tell the public that any kids under four feet tall cannot do the slides at Sooner Pool, not even with an adult with them. First day and we’ve got one sad little lady that’s been waiting and we get here and she can’t do anything but basically put her feet in the big pool.

Unfortunately, the four-foot rule is required by the manufacturer and for the City to comply with its insurance policies. This applies to the slides at both Sooner and Frontier pools. I have added the minimum height requirement to the City’s website to help avoid any confusion in the future. For more information about Sooner and Frontier swimming pools, contact the Richard Kane YMCA or visit https://www.rkymca.org/OutdoorPools.

Why did the City change its Facebook policy?

The City’s social media (including Facebook) policy has never changed. It was simply formally adopted by the City Council in November 2023. The policy in practice, however, is the same policy that has existed since the page was established in 2015.
