Why are you not restriping some of the downtown streets that have recently been repaved?
Work is still underway on the Downtown Central Business District Paving Rehabilitation project, which consists of an asphalt mill and overlay of all streets between Cherokee Avenue and Jennings Avenue and between Adams Boulevard and Hensley Boulevard.
This includes restriping all of the affected streets, in addition to curb and gutter replacement, repairing driveways and sidewalks and installing new ADA ramps with tactile warning devices. Director of Engineering Micah Siemers said this week that contract crews will likely be back on site to finish the restriping portion of the project in the next couple of weeks.
“All of the streets in the project scope will be restriped,” he said. “The contractor will be starting the additional striping this week or next as weather conditions allow.”
The $2 million project was approved by voters in the 2018 General Obligation Bond Election and also includes adding shared bike lane striping and bicycle signage on Dewey between Hensley and Sixth Street and on Second Street between Keeler and Dewey. Additional shared bike lane signage and striping will be added to Fourth Street between Dewey and Comanche.
Additionally, the second phase of downtown landscaping improvements is included in the project scope and is also underway on Frank Phillips Boulevard between Cherokee and Osage. Land scape improvements will continue along Frank Phillips Boulevard to Keeler Avenue.
Portion of Eastland path project complete
Is the Eastland Pathfinder Project finished? I see people using it but there are still some “Road Closed” signs that haven’t been taken down.
The Eastland Pathfinder Extension Project is technically still under construction. The project, which got underway in June, includes construction of a new Pathfinder trail east from U.S. Highway 75 at Eastland Shopping Center to Brookline Drive as well as installing a new trail head west of U.S. Highway 75 across from the shopping center. The revisions were necessary due to increased traffic in the Eastland Center parking lot with the construction of Chick-Fil-A and re-locations of Hobby Lobby and Big Lots in recent years.
According to the Engineering Department, the portion of the path between Eastland Shopping Center and Brookline Drive is essentially finished. However, the contractor is still working on this project along Brookline Drive and still has some other work to finish including striping and work at the trail head just west of Highway 75. This portion of the project is likely to wrap up by the end of this calendar year.
