Q&A: Work on Palmetto nearly complete

Aug 27, 2019

Since it seems the construction on Palmetto Drive is nearing completion, will the road crews be fixing/cleaning up the debris on Carol Road and Oak Park Road to the north of Palmetto? In order to access Acorn Drive residents have had to attempt to avoid all of this. Also, is Acorn Drive on the list to be repaired anytime soon. It is in terrible shape.

According to Director of Engineering Micah Siemers, Acorn, Carol Road and the portion of Oak Park Road north of Palmetto is the portion of Oak Park that are not public streets. These streets, built by a developer that is no longer in business, did not meet standards/codes and were therefore never accepted by the City of Bartlesville. There are no City of Bartlesville projects planned for any of the streets in question. City crews have the concrete-lined ditch work to finish along Virginia Avenue, which will conclude the Palmetto road project.

Pools closed; Sooner Park splashpad still open

I was wondering what the reason is that Sooner and Frontier pools close so early in the year. Most places I have lived keep city pools open until Labor Day. Is it possible to consider that for next year? I imagine one of the reasons is staffing but perhaps there could be adjusted hours so the community could still have access to the pools?

The Richard Kane YMCA closes the pools at the beginning of the school year because staff as well as the kids who typically use the pools are returning to classes and are unable to work and/or attend. Sooner and Frontier swimming pools are owned by the City of Bartlesville but are operated and managed by the Richard Kane YMCA. For more information about the pools or the YMCA, call 918.336.0713.

The Sooner Park splash pad, however, is still open, Parks Superintendent Bobby Robinson said today. The splash pad will close once temperatures consistently drop below the high 70s and lower 80s.

“That’s usually around the first or second week of October,” Robinson said.
