According to the June sales tax report from the Oklahoma Tax Commission, revenue for both sales tax and use tax in Bartlesville were down slightly compared to the same period last year, Chief Financial Officer/Treasurer/City Clerk Jason Muninger said Monday.
“Sales tax revenue was $1,859,808, which is down $2,200, or 0.1 percent, compared to June 2023,” Muninger said.
Use tax, which is sales tax applied to online sales, was down $60,000, or 15.2 percent, compared to the same period last year, Muninger said.
He said the dip in the tax revenues isn’t as significant as it might seem.
“We are still comparing back to larger (sales tax) numbers than we were during pre-Covid years, so we’re really finishing the period out flat,” he said. “We only have one year to compare use tax numbers, so that will take more time to develop a trend one way or the other.”
Year-to-date sales tax totals are $23,195,616, which is 2.5 percent, or $557,000 over budget expectations. Year to date use tax totals are $4,818,375, or 92.7 percent, over budget.
“This is precisely the reason we budget conservatively,” Muninger said. “We are over-budget for the year because we included a 2 percent decrease this fiscal year, which ends June 30.”
He said 2024-25 Fiscal Year, which begins July 1, includes an anticipated 1 percent decrease.
