Sewer system improvements: FOG modifications under review

IPP Ordinance with proposed FOG modifications

In August 2022, the Bartlesville City Council approved a contract with S2 Engineering to assist staff with developing a Fats, Oils and Grease Ordinance to mitigate the discharge of FOG from food manufacturer/processor and food service establishments.

With the exception of disinfectant/wet wipes, FOG is the largest contributor to the city’s non-rain related backups and overflows. To facilitate a solution, the existing Sewer Use Pretreatment Standard ordinance was modified to include FOG regulations. This proposed modified ordinance is currently in the review stage.

All commercial food entities in Bartlesville should have received notice of the proposed changes to allow them an opportunity to view and comment on these provisions.

The proposed modifications may be viewed at IPP Ordinance with proposed FOG modifications.

Interested parties are invited to provide feedback on the modified draft ordinance either by emailing Water Utilities Director Terry Lauritsen at tllaurit@cityofbartlesville.org, or by attending the Feb. 23 Sanitary Sewer Improvement Oversight Committee meeting, set for 4 p.m. at City Hall, 401 S. Johnstone.
