Splash pads & swimming pools!

Mar 24, 2026

Unseasonably warm temperatures last week had some Bartians asking why the City-owned splash pads weren’t open yet. The answer is there is still a potential for freezing temperatures, which could cause damage to the facilities, Public Works Director Keith Henry said Monday.

“A hard freeze could result in damages to the facilities and/or the water lines required to operate the splash pads, so we need to hold off a little bit longer before opening them,” Henry said. “Once the weather conditions are reliably above freezing, we’ll get them open.”

Henry said the City-owned, YMCA-managed Sooner and Frontier swimming pools are set to open Memorial Day weekend (May 23). The Public Works Department will provide the maintenance needed to ensure the facilities are ready to open, at which time the Richard Kane YMCA will begin operations for the season.
