Hundreds of trees throughout the city were damaged, parks were closed, and the library’s gazebo blew away during a storm that moved through the Bartlesville area on July 4. The City Council heard storm updates during their regularly scheduled meeting Monday on City activity in the aftermath of the storm.
Highlights of the report include:
- Motorists might have noticed that seven wayfinding signs were blown down. The bolts are designed to sheer in an accident, so the signs are likely not damaged with potential scuffing.
- Bartlesville Airport were busy this weekend clearing numerous large limbs across the roadways. The airport sustained minor damage to the perimeter fence and more substantial damage to the large hangar doors on hangars 1 and 6, which have been repaired.
- Bartlesville Public Library lost one of its two gazebos. Watch the video.
- Frontier Pool sustained damage to its roof.
- Boots Hollow Golf Club was forced to close temporarily due to extensive tree damage. Fifteen large trees were uprooted, hundreds of limbs were downed and 30 trees will need to be removed. “The estimated loss of revenue at the golf course due to the power outages and damage is $12,000 to $15,000,” Bailey said. ” The course is expected to reopen later this week.
- Johnstone and Sooner park had approximately 100 trees down total. Both parks have been closed since late Saturday. Johnstone Park is expected to reopen and work will begin in Sooner Park tomorrow.
- Bailey said emergency dispatchers received 80 calls for service related to the storm in 4.5 hours and managed 230 incoming calls.
- The fire department responded to 33 emergency calls during and immediately after the storm.
- Only minor injuries were reported from one traffic accident.
- Bartlesville Public Library served more than 200 visitors as a cooling shelter on Sunday.
- City crews removed approximately 80 trees from roadways Saturday night into Sunday morning. All roads are reported as open at this time.
