Voters to decide seats on City Council

Nov 1, 2022

Voters in wards 2, 3 and 4 will decide who will represent their ward on the City Council for the next two years — although one candidate reportedly announced to local media last week that he has dropped out of the race.

John Maples reportedly has said he will no longer seek the Ward 4 position, but his withdrawal comes too late to remove his name from the ballot. Voters will still see his name on the ballot in addition to candidate Billie Roane, who has served on the council since being appointed to fulfill the unexpired term of Alan Gentges after he was named municipal judge in 2021. Other council candidates include incumbent Jim Curd and challenger Brandon Wade for Ward 3, and voters will decide between Loren Roszel and Chelsie Wagoner for the open Ward 2 seat, which is being vacated by Councilor Paul Stuart, who chose not to seek another term.

According to the Oklahoma Election Board, voters can go to the polls on Nov. 8 or choose the “early voting” option by voting in-person absentee on the fourth floor of City Hall, 401 S. Johnstone Ave. (Washington County Election Board offices are located on the fourth floor of City Hall via a lease agreement between the City and WCEB.)

In-person absentee voting will be available Wednesday through Saturday during the following times:

WHEN

Wednesday, Nov. 2 — 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Thursday, Nov. 3 — 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.
