The Bartlesville Police Department is joining forces with the Bartlesville Fire Department and the Bartlesville Public Library for the City’s inaugural Community Block Party. “May The Force Be With You” will be held 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, May 4, on Johnstone Avenue between Adams Boulevard and Silas Street.
The event will feature a variety of emergency vehicles, games for kids, inflatable bouncy houses and food. The vehicle line-up will feature police cars, fire trucks, an ambulance and the police Special Operations Team vehicle. Two bouncy houses and an outdoor story area featuring special guest readers will be provided. There will also be face painting, a games area, and free hot dogs, hamburgers, popcorn and snowcones. Friends of the Library will be hosting a sidewalk sale of used books, and kids can sign up for the library’s Summer Reading Program.
Police Chief Tracy Roles says the event has been in the planning stages for months.
“It is something we want to do for the community,” Roles said. “It will provide an opportunity for the City Forces to connect with Bartlesville residents. We invite everyone to come meet our officers, firefighters and library staff.”
“May 4 is International Firefighters Day,” said Fire Chief John Banks. “On this date you are invited to remember the past firefighters who have died while serving our community or dedicated their lives to protecting the safety of us all. Please come by and check out some of our equipment, good food and get a wristband. We hope to see everyone May 4.”
“We love to serve our community and remind them of the free services they have at their fingertips,” said Bartlesville Public Library Director Shellie McGill. “When we can also have an event with our local safety heroes, it doesn’t get any better than that. May the force be with you – year ’round.”
