Adams Golf Course upgrades underway

Facilities improvements in time for United Way Tournament

The City-owned Adams Golf Course facilities are getting a much needed make-over. City Building Maintenance crews have been hard at work upgrading the facilities — all in time for the long-awaited Bartlesville Regional United Way Golf Tournament, set for Sept. 12-15.

“The United Way Golf Tournament is the largest fundraising tournament that we host at the golf course on an annual basis,” said Assistant City Manager Tracy Roles, who oversees Adams Golf Course. “Last year, the United Way took in $985,000 and they hope to beat that this year. This is money that they use to help community organizations that offer services to Bartlesville residents who need it most. We are more than happy to play a role in that by providing the facilities they need to raise these funds.”

According to Bartlesville Regional United Way President/CEO Lisa Carey, the tournament started 20 years ago, bringing in a mere $8,000 that first year. Carey said the tournament not only helps local residents, it has a positive economic impact on the community.

“‘Tee it Up for United Way’ is an amazing event, sponsored by ConocoPhillips and Phillips 66,” said Carey. “The money raised from the tournament helps those most vulnerable in the areas of health, education, and financial stability through our Partner Agencies. In addition to helping Bartlesville Regional United Way meet our campaign goal, it has a huge economic impact for Bartlesville. Apart from two local businesses, the companies that sponsor the event are from out of town, with some being out of state. They support the tournament by sponsoring and staying in our hotels, eating at our restaurants, and shopping at our stores during the week of the tournament. It is incredible to think about the significant impact the golf tournament provides to our community. This is our 20th year for the tournament, and I am extremely grateful for the generosity displayed during the four-day tournament.”

To help ready the golf course facilities for the tournament, several projects have been completed or are underway, including:

Pro shop

  • Interior and exterior paint
  • New carpet
  • Concrete floors cleaned and new sealant

Cart barn

  • Exterior paint

On-course restrooms

  • Interior and Exterior paint

Parking lot parking

  • Repainted

Entryway sign

  • Refurbished and painted

“We are extremely grateful to City leadership for recognizing the importance of our golf course and making the funding available to complete these much-needed upgrades, and for the dedicated, hard-working Building Maintenance Department staff who made it all happen,” said Golf Pro Jerry Benedict.

Funding for the project was provided through unallocated General Fund.

The golf course will be closed to the general public Sept. 12-15 for the tournament. It will reopen as normally scheduled Sept. 16.
