Fireworks not permitted in city limits
The public is invited to enjoy fireworks in Sooner Park, hosted by the Kiwanis Club of Bartlesville, on July 4, but individual fireworks are not permitted within the city limits.
“We ask everyone to keep in mind that all fireworks are strictly prohibited within city limits,” said Fire Marshal Brady Watson. “This ban applies to both residential and public properties.
“Fireworks pose significant safety hazards to people and property, and their use should be reserved for professionally organized displays.”
Violating the city’s fireworks ordinance can lead to serious consequences, including:
- A fine of $300
- Confiscation of fireworks
Novelty items such as sparklers and snakes are permitted, Watson said.
“A good rule of thumb is anything that makes noise or shoots in the air is considered a firework and is not permitted,” he said.
Keep 911 emergency phone lines clear for true emergencies
“As we approach the Fourth of July holiday, we would like to remind everyone about the importance of keeping our emergency services available for those who truly need them,” Watson said. “Please avoid calling 911 to report illegal fireworks.
“Calls to 911 regarding firework violations can overwhelm our emergency dispatch system, potentially delaying assistance for individuals in critical need.”
Calling 911 should only be used in emergencies, specifically when fireworks have caused personal injuries or fires.
