Are there any updates on the signage at Douglass Park?
This project finally appears to be moving forward, thanks to a decision by City staff to abandon the original contractor on the project and seek bids for a new one. Those bids will be back on June 20, and a recommendation will be made on a contract for the construction of the signs. Assuming all goes well, it should go to the City Council for approval in July. (Their July meeting is July 6.)
Followers of this project may recall that the City had planned to add this work to the contract of the original wayfinding and park signage contractor, who installed the signs at the larger parks, the Pathfinder trailheads and the wayfinding signs around town.
“However, since the original signage project has been on high center for quite some time and we still don’t have the two gateway signs on Highway 75 completed, we decided to not add any additional work to that contract,” said Director of Engineering Micah Siemers. “We had to locate other vendors who might be able to provide such signs and then package up information to get new pricing.
“We are finally on the verge of receiving quotes for this work. We didn’t think it was in the City’s best interest to continue to work with the contractor who has now taken close to three years to complete the original signage project.”
In addition to Douglass Park, Civitan and Eddie Mason parks will also receive signs similar to those installed at the City’s major parks. Smaller signs for Smith, Colonial, and Lyon parks are also included in the project.
