Council approves purchase of property for new fire station

Mar 3, 2026

The Bartlesville City Council has approved the purchase of a $60,000 property that will support the construction of a new fire station on the city’s west side.

The parcel at 1001 SW Frank Phillips Blvd. sits directly adjacent to City‑owned property at 1011 SW Frank Phillips Blvd., just north of Veterans Park and Frontier Swimming Pool. Combining the two lots will create a larger and more functional site for the future Fire Station No. 2, currently located one block north at 100 S. Virginia Ave.

Fire Chief H.C. Call said the additional land will significantly enhance the project.

“The addition of the adjacent property will provide a larger lot and allow a bigger footprint for the design and construction of the new fire station,” Call said. “It will also provide additional parking areas for the fire station, park and swimming pool.”

Fire Station No. 2 is the city’s second-busiest station, responding to 1,143 calls in Fiscal Year 2024-25. However, the existing two‑bay station, built more than 50 years ago, faces cost‑prohibitive plumbing, structural and slab issues, making replacement more feasible than repair.

Voters approved $2,412,000 for the station’s replacement in the 2023 General Obligation Bond Election. The new facility is expected to be a three‑bay station modeled after Fire Stations No. 3 on Madison Boulevard and No. 4 on Price Road.

Because the new station will be constructed near the current site, fire operations will not need to relocate or shut down during construction. Once the new facility is complete, the existing building will likely be demolished or repurposed.

Requests for proposals for the design services of the projects will be sent to consultants in March, with the intent to present a contract to City Council in June. While bidding and construction schedules will be dependent upon the design consultant selected and how quickly the design process goes, construction is tentatively expected to begin in summer 2027.
