New Name, New Greens – Same Heart: Historic Adams Golf Course to Reopen as Boots Hollow Golf Club

Jul 8, 2025

After months of work and a touch of grass-growing grit, the Bartlesville golf course formerly known as Adams Golf Course will soon reopen as Boots Hollow Golf Club. Tucked between whispering trees and rolling Oklahoma hills, the familiar course stands tall with a brand-new name and new greens rebuilt from the soil up — all while paying tribute to its historic roots.

The new name is the result of a collaboration between the City of Bartlesville and the family of K.S. “Boots” Adams, for whom Adams Golf Course was named more than 60 years ago. The Adams family donated land, along with a sizable cash donation, toward the construction of the public golf course briefly known as Sooner Park Golf Course, which was later renamed Adams Municipal Golf Course in recognition of Adams’ generosity.

“We are excited to announce the renaming of Adams Golf Course to Boots Hollow Golf Club,” said Assistant City Manager Laura Sanders. “We believe the new name continues to honor the Adams family’s contribution to our community while accentuating many of the changes that have been ongoing at the course since last fall. We are excited about these changes and we’re grateful to the Adams family for working with us on this and for their continuing support of our public golf course.”

Kenneth and Steve Adams, sons of Boots Adams, said their father was an avid golfer. However, at the time, there was not yet a municipal golf course in Bartlesville.

“He thought if he donated the land and provided some of the working capital to develop it into a golf course, that it would be a fine addition to the city,” said Kenneth Adams. “We’re just very excited for the continuation and the money that has been spent to enhance the golf course. We certainly do appreciate the city’s involvement and investment.”

Steve Adams added that the family is pleased with the unique new name that honors their father’s impact.

“We are very happy that dad donated the land to the city to be used as a golf course,” said Steve Adams. “And we’re just very happy for all the work that’s being done on the site. We look forward to seeing it when it’s all completed.”

The new name is just one of many changes underway at the City-owned golf course. With the exception of the driving range, the course was closed last fall so that a major greens rebuild project could get underway.

The voter-approved project consists of a complete replacement of all 18 course greens, along with the nursery and putting greens, and upgrading the course’s draining system.

“We are extremely grateful to the voters who made this project possible,” said Sanders. “It has been a major undertaking – certainly the largest renovation to take place at the course in modern history. But it will make the City golf course better in every way. It will better serve our players, our community, and extend the life of the course exponentially.”

In other changes, Dee Roadman also joined the City team as Director of Golf in April, and additional staff was hired and are working hard to reopen the course next month.

The course will reopen with a special Community Golf Day on Aug. 22 and the Grand Reopening Shotgun on Aug. 23, with business as usual beginning Sept. 2.
