Many local businesses were notified recently of the City of Bartlesville’s new tax rate that will go into effect Jan. 1, 2016. The notification has city officials clarifying the overall sales tax rate will be 8.9 percent beginning next year — not 3.8 percent, as shown on a rate card issued by the Oklahoma Tax Commission.
The rate card was mailed to all local businesses that have paid sales tax in the last six months and reflects the new tax rate at 3.8 percent, which is the City’s portion of the local sales tax.
Overall sales tax in Bartlesville also includes county and state taxes, which were not reflected in the amount shown on the rate card, said Administrative Director/Chief Financial Officer Mike Bailey.
“The City of Bartlesville’s four-tenths of a percent tax increase will into effect Jan. 1, 2016,” said Bailey. “The Tax Commission sent out cards showing the city’s new rate. This did not include the county or the state’s rates and, when combined, the total rate including those will be 8.9 percent.”
Bailey said some businesses may not have received the cards, depending on when they last paid sales tax.
