The Engineering Department is gearing up to launch $10 million in projects approved by voters in the 2023 General Obligation Bond Election.
“We received the first tranche of funding from the 2023 G.O. Bond at the end of June, and those funds were appropriated by the City Council in July,” said Director of Engineering Micah Siemers. “We still have some design work to do, but the public should start seeing these projects come online by next summer.”
Coming in around $2.4 million, the largest project on the list is the new No. 2 Fire Station, which will replace the current station at Hensley Boulevard and Virginia Avenue. The new station will be constructed on a vacant lot near Frontier Pool, at Virginia Avenue and Frank Phillips Boulevard.
“We’ve also purchased (a former business) near the location, so we’ll have that entire corner available for the new station,” Siemers said. “It will be similar in square footage and layout as stations 3 and 4, located on Tuxedo Boulevard and on Price Road.”
Siemers said the former station will likely be sold or repurposed.
Some other projects approved in the election include:
- Lupa asphalt mill and overlay from Sunset Boulevard to Seminole Street. The project will also include portions of Margarite, Adeline, Bucy, Rogers, Kaw, Seminole, Theodore, Cudahay, Morton and Sunset. ($1.2 million).
- Cherokee Avenue mill and overlay from Hensley to 14th Street. ($825,000)
- Lahoma concrete panel replacement from Spring Street to Palmetto. ($700,000)
- Michigan reconstruction from to Queenstown to Elmhurst. ($550,000)
- Avondale mill and overlay from Tuxedo Boulevard to Ohio Street, including portions of Michigan and Indiana. ($500,000)
- Greystone concrete panel replacement between Adams Boulevard and Rolling Meadows. ($300,000)
- Valley Road and Denver Road mill and overlay from Shawnee Avenue to Hillcrest Drive. ($220,000)
- Georgetown mill and overlay from Silver Lake Road to Cambridge. ($125,000)
- Pathfinder repaving/maintenance – sections to be identified based on study conducted previously. ($250,000)
- Hudson Lake restrooms. ($150,000)
- Eddie Mason Park equipment. ($100,000)
- Jo Allyn Lowe Park drainage improvements. ($120,000)
- Douglass Park Playground shade structure. ($70,000)
